The film, as much as possible when it is filled with all sorts of monsters, looks artistic, with memorable acting and a lot of workshop directing. The feeling of an incessant war nightmare with the civilian population as an unnecessary biosubstance is perfectly conveyed. Expressively shown housing and living conditions in the then large with Frosy and Fleur Belarusian villages in the bald spots between the trees in the wooded-wetlands.
A long, with manifestations of humor of a very animal, created by a carnival of violence and brutality in the village at the end of the film with hundreds of characters, from which the camera camera now and then snatches especially colorful, cinematically made very strongly.
You can feel the pain and rage of a big director who obviously let it through his heart. There is no comparison with colorful film crafts about the war with the Nazis, made now by Russian Hollywood imitators, great connoisseurs of battle special effects - masters, probably, in computer "shooters" outside working hours.
There is no film showing what kind of war it is, even more clearly - without, let us note, an overdose and savoring naturalism.
