Sergey works in a department that is a kind of model of the surrounding society: young people want change, but those who are older are not at all against modern repression and the introduction of the most brutal framework. After the death of General Secretary Konstantin Chernenko, mourning was declared throughout the Soviet Union, the streets were empty. It was at this time that Sergei Eremin decided on a frank publication. Previously, this manuscript of Sergei Starikov would never have been missed.

The manuscript has disappeared, so the editor has to look for meetings with an old friend. They split up as enemies because they both liked the same girl. But for the sake of publication, the prudent Eremin is ready to again seek rapprochement with a retired friend Starikov. . .
