I watched the film on the recommendation of Lyudmila Ternikova. Thanks for the recommendation.
The film was based on the story of Michel Ken – “The Horrible Gardens”, the film turned out to be magnificent with an empathic attitude of the picture, as always Jean Becker puts Kindness and Lifeliness at the forefront. The eternal dispute of fathers and children in the Turgenev style, rebellion, gambling, passion in the name of Love. Wonderful acting work of all French actors, but I would like to highlight from a psychological and human point of view – Jacques Villiers and my favorite Benoit Majimel. He said a terrific phrase about always wanting to be himself, not someone. As the human essence of the film, there are two points here that I would like to reflect in the words of Charlie Chaplin and a poem by Boris Pasternak, they most accurately shade the seed of this film: “Sorry, I don’t want to be an emperor.” It's not my profession. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I would like to help everyone I can – Jews, Christians, blacks and whites. We all want to help each other, that's how we're made. We want to live with the happiness of others, not their suffering. We don’t want to hate or despise each other. In this world there is a place for everyone, the earth is rich and can feed everyone. The road of life is free and beautiful, but we have lost our way. Greed has poisoned people’s souls, filled the world with hatred, made us suffer and caused bloodshed. We picked up speed, but we closed ourselves. Machines give abundance, leaving in need. Our knowledge has made us cynical, and our minds have become hard and evil. We think too much and feel too little: more than machines, we need humanity, more than intelligence, we need kindness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. The plane and the radio brought us closer. The very nature of these inventions demands kindness from man, the universal brotherhood and unity of all of us. Even now, my voice reaches millions of people around the world, millions of desperate men, women and young children, victims of a system that tortures and imprisons innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say, “Do not despair!” Our present sufferings are but convulsions of greed, of people’s despair of human progress: the hatred of these people will pass, dictators will die, and the power they have taken from the people will return to them. Do not submit to tough and rude people who despise and enslave you, who tell you how to live, what to do, what to think and what to feel, who train you, treat you like cattle, like cannon fodder. Do not obey these heartless people, machine people with machine minds and machine hearts. You're not cattle! You people! . (Charlie Chaplin)
And a poem by Boris Pasternak:
Being famous is ugly.
It doesn't lift you up.
Don't start an archive.
Manuscripts are shaking.
The goal of creativity is dedication.
Not hype, not success.
Shameful, meaningless,
Be a parable on everyone's lips.
But we have to live without impersonation.
The way to live, in the end
To attract the love of space,
Hear the future call.
And we have to leave gaps.
In fate, not among papers,
Places and chapters of life
Crossing in the margins.
And plunge into the unknown,
And hide your footsteps in it,
As the terrain hides in the fog,
When you don't see anything in it.
Others on a live trail
Your path will follow an inch,
But defeat by victory
You don't have to tell the difference.
And you don't have to.
Don't give up on your face,
But to be alive, alive and all,
Alive and only to the end.
