Just as “West Side Story” can be called a musical adaptation of the eternal story of Romeo and Juliet, “Dancer Disco” can be safely called a musical adaptation of Cinderella. Although this topic is still secondary. The main thing is dancing, dancing and dancing again. Still, despite the criminal plot, the main thing in this film is still dancing. It's no coincidence that name. After all, it is worth admitting that the time associated with the 80s we associate immediately with the “Disco Dancer”. The name here is what you need. I also associate the Disco era with this film and Saturday Night Fever.
You can compare these two movies, but why? I’m not saying everyone is good in their own way. Fever is a masterpiece, and Disco Dancer doesn’t even claim it. But I’ll point out some negative things.
I have never liked Indian films (except for this of course) because of the bad performance of actors. Mithun Chakraborty is certainly out of competition, he is both a dancer and an actor not bad, but with the rest. And how they behave and how they talk. In general, even as they die, everything is so picture and fictional.
And the film itself, in my opinion, is also not good. Here, for example, if this film was shot not in India, but somewhere in the United States or Europe, it would be much more successful, since the main problems are precisely related to the shortcomings of the Indian cinema culture. This is the same as even though Kurosawa’s Japanese films will always be recognized as masterpieces, but I will respect them, but I will not love them, since the actors irritate me in them. But I can’t say anything bad about the dance numbers, as they are well executed here. Of course, the number under I'm A Disco Dancer, this is an absolute masterpiece, although again it looks picturesque. There can be a lot of problems in the scenario. Since the story is too far-fetched, or on the other hand clearly does not fit the theme of the film. After all, from a dance film to arrange a criminal action movie, it is only to fuck it. That’s why I love Saturday Night Fever because it’s a hot topic, but it takes a back seat to Travolta’s dance, and here the whole movie is based on revenge, which basically confirms the end of it, although it should have been quite the opposite. So the writers made a lot of mistakes. In general, if you evaluate the film from a sober approach, it is clearly below the average. But what makes you watch this movie again and again? Probably an insatiable desire to know the era in which I unfortunately could not visit. So the film will remain iconic for me anyway, and I will watch it again and again.
