Look, look...enjoy? Evening. After a relaxing bath, you want to forget about problems, plunge into a beautiful world that exists only in cinema. The movie “Eat, Pray, Love” is just right for this, you think, you press play and... wonder. I'll try to explain it in more detail.
The book did not reach hands, but the plot was known. I read about the film in various magazines, and on Kinopoisk there were always trailers, then shots, etc.
It was the first, well, probably half an hour. I wanted to punch all the actors in the face so they would wake up and start playing. Or at least get angry, then there would be rage. At least some emotion. I wanted to hit, honestly. Even the famous "beauty." Because for half an hour, I couldn't figure out what was going on on screen. Some talk about nothing, tears, I don't know why. Maybe my age doesn’t allow me to “understand” it, maybe it’s just the Russian mentality that worked. Woman, what else do you need? A loving husband, a great home, a job. Boring? Come to Russia. We promise it won't be boring! Well, I was distracted from the topic, as always.
The desire to beat everyone began to slowly leave me when the main character went to Italy. Yes, the topic of “eat” is fully covered here. Where else but in Italy? A place where the taste of a dish is like music, it overwhelms your soul, your emotions beat with a fountain, you want to purr with pleasure. Great place. But the acting failed again. I wanted to throw them out of the frame, leave only pasta, pizza and views of the city.
Pray. From the first shots, while the heroine rides in a taxi, the life of India is not in such a joyful light (when watching, a small thought ran through my head that I had already seen something similar in some Oscar-winning film). Yes, there are no magical scenes, as in comedies, when the heroine can not do anything, but with time, patience and hard work everything becomes wonderful. But to show how she fell asleep, then whined, how she was called a “hamster” (honestly, it became ridiculous when the heroine with a very thin face, called a hamster)... And again, I didn't believe the actors. Richard’s story could have caused a lot of emotions, especially for me, if it hadn’t been told so dryly.
Love. There was no limit to my indignation. They decided to ring the movie? Started with the same nuisance and finished? Not gentlemen, it's not a movie. Do you think if they showed a lot of footage in trailers with views of cities (there were terribly few of them in the film, everyone went to the trailer), stuck the name of the star, put the world bestseller as a script and that’s all? Where's the soul? Where's the game? Where the hell are you working?!
In general, at first I conceived this as a neutral review, but in the course of writing I realized how outraged I am.
Ugh, there's not enough evil. All in all, we sum up:
1 point - for a beautiful end (a boat sailing at sunset - a beaten reception, but it still touches women's hearts)
2 points for some minor heroes. Unfortunately, Julia never showed that she is a first-class actress. And Javier -- I'll keep quiet.
2 points for trying to make a movie. It just didn't work out.
You can try to find meaning in the film. You can and you probably should. But I don't. I'd better go read a book. Maybe it will really make me feel these trips and understand what it means to eat, to pray and to love.
