Richard Jenkins grew up on the campus of DeKalb, Illinois. My mother was a housewife and my father was a dentist. Before becoming a film actor, Richard worked as a laundry carrier. Later, after graduating from the acting faculty, he received a degree.
He began his career in the theater, while acting in small roles in movies. He became truly famous only in the early 2000s, playing the role of Nathaniel Samuel Fisher Sr., the father of the family, in one of the most famous HBO series The Client is Always Dead.
In the theater troupe Trinity Repertory Company, he played in many plays, the most popular of which was “Feasts with Panthers”, written for television. In fact, in 1974, this work was his debut on the screen. From 1990 to 1994 he would be the artistic director of the theater.
After that, he works in movies all the time. His film roles include Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), Eastwick Witches (1987), Snow Cedars (1999) and Northern Country (2005), Everyone's Mad About Mary (1998), Me, Me and Irene Again (2000), First Love (1999) and Tell Me That's Not So (2001). Richard collaborated with the Coenomi brothers in the films:
"The man who was not" (2001), Unbearable Cruelty (2003) and Burn After Reading (2008).
Remaining still more an actor of episodic roles, the actor received wide recognition from critics and the public.
In 2008, he was nominated for an Oscar for his leading role in the film The Visitor in the category Best Actor.
