Not a bad picture of Jim Sheridan, which tells about the once popular boxer who went to prison for “mistakes of youth”, but 14 years later returned to his native Belfast to his ex-girlfriend. Despite the fact that there are boxing scenes in the film, it acts only as a background, the film itself is permeated with the conflict between the Irish and the British, two religions - Protestantism and Catholicism. And it is in this period of history that the main character played by Daniel Day-Lewis fights for his happiness, and at the same time tries to return to his favorite profession. The ending of the film deserves special praise, for a long time I have not been so worried about the main character.
