Do you believe that you can truly love in 4 days? 2 hours — and you believe.
They often make films about love that comes and stays forever. So-called fairy tales. Moreover, not only modern directors sin with this approach, but also Old Hollywood, because far from one film of that time has such a sudden love to the grave at the heart of the plot. And usually these are fairy tales with happy endings, in which you want to believe, because well played and filmed.
As I began watching Madison County Bridges, I wondered if it was possible to show a really serious, true love in the framework of the promised four days.
And if you doubt it, I can assure you that two hours of this amazing film will convince you of this.
I watched this film yesterday and, wiping away tears, was going to write a review literally on emotions, but circumstances did not allow. As a result, I have now partially revised the film, refreshing some passages in my memory, to still write a worthy film.
To view “Bridges of Madison County” I was prompted by the list of recommended films on the page of an equally stunning film with Meryl Streep “Lovers”. I spent a couple of days beating around the bush, wondering whether to watch or not: Clint Eastwood was famous for being a western, so I didn’t quite know what to expect from Bridges. I’m so glad I decided to play this movie yesterday. Now another title has been added to the list of favorite films, I once again became convinced of the genius of Meryl Streep, and I also discovered Clint Eastwood as a wonderful actor and as a talented director.
The film "Bridges of Madison County" tells about the life of an ordinary housewife Francesca from Iowa, where a rather successful photographer Robert unexpectedly comes in search of new shots. Francesca's proposal to show the lost traveler the way to the Rosemary Bridge becomes the beginning of a fairy tale, which is allotted only 4 days. Is it possible to love in such a short time? This may seem unrealistic, mythical, but Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood will easily convince the most convinced skeptics. The love shown by such excellent actors, even the language does not turn to call play. I admire their duet. The love of their heroes is so sincere, so real. Real feelings, with tears.
I don't want to need you.
- Why not?
- Because you won't be mine. Heroes fall into the trap of their love, where any chosen path will be equally true and wrong. What's the right thing to do? Should we do the right thing?
This is the line on which the film and its unparalleled ending balance. Did the heroes do the right thing? I don't know if there's an answer to that question. Meryl Streep has a film behind her, where her other heroine gets into a similar situation, but the denouement in it is completely different. And it is impossible to say which ending of similar stories is correct and which is not. It's all about personal perception.
How do you perceive Francesca's behavior? On the one hand, she acted immorally, and on the other, she also had the right to her own dreams. She's a housewife who couldn't do it. So should she be judged? Of course, everyone will have their own view.
The end of this movie is somehow what it should be. The question of what was true and what was not remains open, and hope will be there even when there is no place for it to be.
I want to love you as I do now until the end of my days.
“Madison County Bridges” is a worthy, stunning melodrama that captures with its simplicity and sincerity. This movie will leave a mark on the soul.
After such films, you desperately want to believe in such a unique, boundless and all-consuming love, experience it yourself and never stop hoping for a miracle.
