The old version of the film adaptation is shot quite in the spirit of good old British detectives, such is the main character there. The entourage, of course, is more authentic, since it was filmed and is closer in time to what is described in the books, and not now. Perhaps, the main character played by Roy Mursden is more likeable to me and investigative actions in the old series are shown more, since there are 6-7 episodes dedicated to them, not two. Absolutely different than in the new series, his partner is shown, in the new one - it is a full scumbag, misogynist and racist, which is not in the old ones, at least in these two. So watching new series, sometimes it is worth familiarizing yourself with the old options.
