As a result of watching three of Matty Do's films (all at the moment), one common theme is the wrong choice. A person is under pressure, which in fact is the requirement to perform his duties in his place (in this film for the main character Chantali is obedience to a strict father, in "Dear Sister" for a girl Nok from a poor family is a job as a nurse for a cousin, in "The Long Walk" for the main character is following the traditions of Buddhism). And when the main characters reject these demands, wanting to lighten their load, and begin to voluntuously, this is the wrong choice, leading to fatal consequences. Sometimes the wrong choice is made several times, and then the situation worsens each time in a spiral, changing the very personality of the person - he becomes more cruel, more greedy, ceases to control himself. Under the cover of "horror" Matty Do hides the conservative Asian themes of following his destiny and respect for accepted norms in society. Low-budget "Chantalie" in the genre gravitates to horror, "Dear Sister" - to the thriller, and "The Long Walk" - a quality festival work, far beyond any genre. In fact, the director conveys to us the idea that the horror is the person himself, his evil will, which in this film no longer refers to Chantalie, but to her mother. Obviously, Chantalee is the most positive of the three films, which is caused by a generally positive image of a girl who wants to empathize.
