On the hotline The helpline differs only by one digit from Lucy's home number, whose friend recently jumped off the ill-fated railway bridge. She, a 24-year-old cheese saleswoman in a supermarket, will no longer have the opportunity to take care of the unfortunate Alistair, but the ghost of the guy continues to haunt Lucy, reminding herself of the bridge on which Lucy has to return home, then the gallows in the window of the house opposite. With everyone outspoken in words and deeds, Lucy runs to the bar to order vodka and be alone with a random man.
Like the style of his compatriot Lynn Ramsey, the performer of the role of Lucy and director Karen Gillan builds the film on a state of internal tension, which is the main character after the tragedy that happened to the person close to him. The picture itself, Gillan said, originated as an attempt to understand why young men are more likely to commit suicide in her home district of Scotland than in the rest of the country.
Trustline is 49626. Next time, Lucy corrects the caller and even listens to his confession that it took months to prepare for the call and that he can not sleep. Her phone line is heated by an unusually long conversation, her lifeline warmed up by scrolling through her head with Alistair.
I have no one to talk to either... When I try to talk, I feel like I can’t be heard. Lucy talks heart-to-heart on the phone with a stranger, like an old friend, advising an elderly man to invite children and grandchildren to Christmas dinner, so as not to be alone. Her phone line is heated up like a line of trust, her lifeline is hot with conversations and dancing with the poor fellow Dale, who has no money to support the family. Will Dale end up like Alistair? And again and again, heavy memories of Alistair, with whom there was no one left but her. Without the bar, it is possible to do again. We always wanted to move to California. I slept with three random guys. After Christmas, she shares her innermost secret with an elderly man, as if she herself calls the helpline. My eyes are shaking with tears cooling the phone line. It remains to cool the overheated line of life. Mixing expletives with apologies (maybe she missed something in helping a friend), Lucy tries to collect everything she has experienced in a message to Alistair who left her.
This is not fair to those you leave behind, these words Lucy heard Dale, but they are said for Alistair and for all those who are going to make a decision, fatal not only for themselves, but for loved ones. 9 out of 10
