For a long time did not start watching the second part of the series Paolo Sorrentino about the Pope “The New Pope”, but finally gathered her strength and watched. As it turned out, my doubts were completely justified. Already in Loro, something in Sorrentino a little alarmed me, I drew attention to the tendency to abuse certain techniques of the pictorial series – in particular, to group sexual dances of a female nature. And the point is not even in the techniques themselves, how much more intrusive than necessary, their use. I cannot but note the visual impeccability of this part, despite the thorough grounding and sometimes even the low moral level of the depicted. The first series was devoted to the main issues facing the Catholic Church today – the question of faith and the question of the often crisis of faith, the question of the human qualities of ministers of the faith, the question of what the Catholic Church is now becoming – a big business project. The second series focused on the deeper features of representatives of the church and believers – in particular, on issues of religious fanaticism, on which not only Islam is based, but sometimes Catholicism, which runs through the entire film, on issues of sexual deviations of church ministers, and the issue of celibacy (the new Pope wants to allow marriages for priests, however, does not have time to do this), and, of course, moral and ethical issues are also touched quite deeply – both cardinals and popes and candidates themselves. After a poorly chosen candidate and his failed steps, which he did not have much time to do, Voello's choice falls on a very strange candidate - Sir John Brannox, a kind of aesthetic reclusive living on his estate somewhere in England. For Voello himself, this will end in failure at first, because he will lose his position, since Brannox will make the same mistakes that many before him – succumb to soft blackmail and put clear criminals in key positions (yes, there are plenty of such there). But suddenly Pius will wake up from a coma for some time, many different events will happen, including miracles, but then everything will return to normal and Voello himself will become pontiff, as I understand him, who aspired to this position all his life. The plot is quite mixed up, the logic of events and actions is not always observed, everything stretches very slowly, and some statements of the main characters are very ambiguous. So watch will be interesting only for those who want to delve into the essence of the statements of Sorrentino, decorated, as always, very beautiful, the cast is also flawless.
