Chaos is not a failure. Chaos is a ladder. Many tried to climb it, but stumbled and did not try again. The fall broke them. Others had a chance to rise to the top, but they refused, clinging to power, to Gods, or to love. These are illusions. Only the ladder is real, and all that matters is climbing up.
I read the novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham, which came out in 1946.
It's classic noir. The book takes its atmosphere.
As for the production of Guillermo del Toro: it has a kind of psychotherapeutic and moral effect for me, since here the director meticulously left the socialization of images, and made a magnificent drama with characteristic (clearly scripted) characters. The pace of the narrative is deliberately slow, but it is readable to take into account all the details. What is the coolest thing here – working with color and light solutions is simply brilliant. The right cold tones. And how brilliantly they intersect with a surprisingly accurate semantic load - the work of Cate Blanchett. In my opinion, one of her best works. It is also worth noting the painstaking and scrupulous work of costumers and production artists. Everything in the thematic treatment of that era.
As Ozzy Osbourne said, “When you go up, you’ll meet a lot of different people.” Do not hurt them, for you will meet them all again when you fall down.
Well said and the red line runs through both the novel and the film. I must say, the director treated the source rather carefully and gave heat in terms of the essence of the environment of manipulation and the “law” that dominates one over the other.
And the film is stylish and unrealistically beautiful. Highest score. I really liked it. I recommend reading the book and watching the movie.
I personally recommend Semyon Kolesnikov and Natasha Golubeva – colleagues in business. 💋
