I haven’t watched any Danish films for a long time, but yesterday I watched Kristoffer Bohe’s relatively new film “Taste of Life” / Smagen af sult, 2021, who used to watch two films – “Reconstruction” and “Allegro”, I liked them, especially the first one. This one, too, was not bad, especially since it has culinary themes, which I love as well highlighting human relationships. The plot is uncomplicated - once a decade ago, by chance in a restaurant, Carsten (Nicolas Coster-Waldau), who worked as a cook for his older brother, met Maggie (Katrina Rosenthal), between them an affair, married, in which they had two children. With the help of money from an inheritance Maggie received, they managed to buy their own restaurant, both of which were obsessed with getting a Michelin star. Everything seemed to be going well, but somehow under the influence of the moment when Carsten did not respond to her desire to talk, Maggie commits a rash act that leads to almost the collapse of their marriage, but in the end, when the restaurant finally receives the coveted award, and two stars at once, there was hope that it may not be quite the end. As you understand, the film is not so much about high cuisine, as about people and their actions, the actors play good, so I watched not without interest.
