I watched a documentary about a very peculiar Italian singer Paolo Conte, some of whose songs I have long liked, the film Paolo Conte, via con me, 2021, directed by Giorgio Verdelli. There, as always in such films, we see interviews with the artist himself, as well as with people with whom he worked during his life and still works now, although his age is very respectable (born in 1937). Although he was fond of music literally from childhood, nevertheless, he studied as a lawyer and worked in the specialty until 40-plus years, but even then he wrote songs, and later began to perform them himself, he calls himself an author-performer, many of his compositions are written in a jazz style, but some songs in a different arrangement, given to other artists, sound completely different, such as the song “Sineva” / Azzurro performed by Celentano. Conte himself is quite a colorful type, has gained quite wide popularity both in Italy and abroad. When asked how he would describe his style, he ironically replied, “The confusion of the end of the century.” Anyone who likes his songs will love the movie.
