People like to invent horrors and fears. Then to themselves they seem not so ugly and terrible. Drinking to a fever, deceiving, stealing, whipping wives with reins, starving an old grandmother, quartering a fox caught in a chicken coop or showering arrows with the last remaining unicorn in the world, they like to think that the ghost that walks at dawn on the huts is worse and more ugly than they are. It makes them feel better. It's easier for them. Andrzej Sapkowski, The Last Wish.
In my opinion, the movie worked. This is the author's chamber film, sensitive and natural in its nature Cruelty. It's like the main touch of the painting. Here the director Todd Haynes kept the intrigue until the very end. He keeps the focus and composition exactly as in his paintings: Far from Paradise (2002), Velvet Goldmine (1998), World Full of Miracles (2017), Carol (2015).
The genre is a good mix. This is a small detective, and psychological thriller and social drama. Cinema in this case has a kind of manipulative technique aimed at establishing an emotional connection in order to control and influence another person.
The picture is multifaceted and emotionally savvy. Metaphorical.
The visual solution is almost perfect.
Julianne Moore is a goddess here, literally and figuratively. Genius game.
It's a great movie. There is a lot to think about after watching and thinking about toxic relationships. 🧑👧
