Jerzy Skolimowski's film Ea/Eo, 2023. I read that the director was inspired to create this film by Robert Bresson’s once-watched film “Luck, Balthazar”, which at one time made a very strong impression on me (my score is 9/10). In the film, the main character is also a donkey Ea. Donkey was born and worked in the circus with his beloved hostess, who performed under the name Cassandra, she also loved him very much, always stood up for him if someone tried to raise a hand on him. But one day, animal rights activists came into play, organizing protests against the use of animals in the circus (by the way, I am also against the circus with animals), as a result of which all the animals were confiscated, but, as often happens as a result of the actions of all sorts of protesters, sent them anywhere. True, the authorities with fanfare opened a new stable, but this was all limited. And begin wandering donkey wandering from place to place, no one, in fact, does not need him, so he makes more than one escape, hoping in the depths of his soul to find his former mistress. He goes through various trials, and in the end it all ends very badly for the donkey, but that's how people are. Even those animal defenders are not at all concerned about the fate of the animals they liberate. People treat animals purely as consumers. Unfortunately, the film wasn’t as good as Bresson’s movie was. Very much attention is paid to the visual component, a lot of all sorts of shootings from drones, with filters, etc., but this somehow does not fit very well with the content. Acting is a little weak, too. For some reason in the end in a clearly negative mini-role introduced Isabelle Huppert. Many critics tried to find some depth in the content of the film, they say, hints at the socio-political situation in Poland, but you can draw anything by the ears, maybe something in them responds to this kind of depiction of the situation, but here I am not ready to say anything on this topic, I simply do not own the situation.
