I watched almost all the films at Francis Weber’s, but somehow I missed Le dîner de cons (1998), and finally it came to him. A few wealthy men have come up with “entertainment” – every Wednesday they arrange a dinner, to which each of them brings some weirdo, who seems to him a jerk, all evening they stare at them, and then the one whose jerk turns out to be the most idiot, is rewarded. Publisher Pierre Brochand (Thierry Lermitt) can not find a suitable subject for the next dinner, suddenly on the train one of his friends meets, as it seems to him, a suitable candidate - eccentric François Pignon (Jacques Villray), whose hobby is gluing models from matches, he informs Brochand about this, he agrees that before dinner Pignon will come to his house, promising him that he will publish an album with his models, from where they will go to dinner together. Broshan's wife denounces this activity, rightly considering it cruel, and leaves the house. But, unfortunately, everything will not go at all as Broshan planned, they will not be able to go to dinner, but an evening full of unpredictable events will begin, which Pignon will largely suit him. There’s a lot going to happen in that time, not just with Broshan, but with the other characters involved. Pignon, although indeed to some extent an idiot, but, unlike Broshan, a rather kind person, although even doing good, bothers to get into stupid situations. The film is quite funny and at the same time instructive, the main actors are also good. The film was very popular at the box office, and also received several awards, it was shot two remakes.
