I watched the rather curious French crime drama thriller “Une affaire de goût”, 1999, directed by Bernard Rapp, about whom I have not heard anything until now, which is not surprising, since he made only 5 films, now he is no longer alive. The eccentric rich Frederic Delomont (Bernard Girodo) accidentally noticed a young handsome waiter Nicolas Riviera (Jean-Pierre Laurie) in the restaurant, made him try his food, noticed that the guy recognized exactly what the dish was made of and invited him to his post as a personal taster (as it turned out, he was not the first and not the last in this position). The guy at first clearly recognized him as a psychopath, which, however, did not prevent him from agreeing, he offered him a very good salary, and we know from the very beginning that everything ended very badly, we are simultaneously shown the investigation of the crime and what led to it. And here we see how the events unfolded, it turned out that Nicolas was called to taste not only food, he was supposed to become literally a double of Frederick, he literally hypnotized him like an octopus, entangled him with his tentacles, depriving him of all his personal life and almost depriving him of his own identity, although he did not give the impression of a weakling and did not consider himself such, but then he deceived himself a bit, a little too carried away, finding out the limit of his patience. And when he had already achieved almost complete loss of himself, Delomont first fired him, and then finally decided to humiliate him even more, for which he paid. Watching this process is a little creepy, but the film is interesting, because the actors in it play perfectly and the director knows the measure in everything.
