If we consider this film from the point of view of the comedy genre, then this is perhaps not his best work, in the same film “City Lights” was much funnier, but in that film I did not really like the plot, although such good films are also needed, but he was too kind. I watched this film already in a restored version, with a musical insert (by the way very successful, many music tracks were used in later films, as if parading this film) and with the voiceover of Charles Chaplin himself. So, unfortunately, and perhaps fortunately, I did not see any silent film, but I know that this film was created specifically for silent cinema, but after watching it, I can not imagine how you can see it without words, it will lose half of its meaning, and without this music, well, without it you can watch the Golden Rush, I do not know. The additions to the film were very successful.
No matter how someone treated the work of Charles Chaplin, but those who watched his films, certainly did not remain indifferent, whether it was “The City Lights” or “New Times”, or the same “Great Dictator”, everyone will find something different in these films: deep meaning, sparkling humor, or just a very good film, but, of course, this is the genius of his time, I can say with confidence. And the film “Golden Rush” only that and confirmation, this is a funny, kind film with a good script, and as always a wonderful acting by Charles Chaplin.
