I liked the films of Finnish film director Aki Kaurismäki and finally reached his film La vie de bohème (1992). In the creation of the film took part France, Sweden, Germany. This film is based on the famous work of the French writer Henri Murget “Scenes from the life of a bohemian”, written by him in 1851. At one time it was very popular, on its basis were written the operas of J. Puccini “Bohemia” and R. Leoncavallo “Bohemia”, the first of them is more famous, the operetta of Imre Kalman “Violet of Montmartre”, filmed several films and staged several performances. Turning to the work in the early 90s of the last century, Kaurismäki, of course, transferred the action to a closer time, but, as they say, tried to preserve the spirit of the work.
We see the lives of three typical representatives of the so-called bohemian writer Marcel Marx (Andre Wilms), an Albanian artist living illegally in France, Rodolfo (Matti Pellonpaa) and an Irish musician Shonar (Kari Väjanen). Not very simple life circumstances bring them together and they become friends, two of them have women in their lives - Rodolfo Mimi (Evelyn Didi), Marcel Muzette (Christine Murillo), Shonaru with women somehow not very lucky. Rodolfo has a wonderful dog Baudelaire. Being to some extent gifted, at least being absolutely convinced of their giftedness, they, as it often happens, are not adapted to ordinary life, they are not able to dispose of money that sometimes fall into their hands, they are not able to dispose of it, and life is not very merciful towards them, troubles and even tragedies constantly occur, in any case, the end is very tragic and open, we do not know how their future fate will turn out, but at the most difficult moment they go to everything to help a friend, which cannot but arouse sympathy.
I liked the movie. Filmed in French, filmed in Paris, i.e. Kaurismäki tried to preserve the authenticity here. The actors created memorable images, which was appreciated at several film festivals.
