Got spoilers! ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------- The Hungarian film "Love" / Szerelem, filmed in 1970 by Karoj Mack. I have always liked Hungarian cinema, this film is no exception, it is an emotionally very strong film, although it is absolutely chamber. The action takes place in the early 50s. A young woman, Luza (Marie Tøreczyk), visits her sick mother-in-law (Lily Darvas), who barely gets out of bed and who already has signs of dementia. She always brings her flowers and favorite salty cookies, and the woman who cares for her gives the money they live on there. She has a strong sense of duty, but she does not feel much love for her mother-in-law. The mother-in-law does not know that Lutsa’s husband, her son Janos (Ivan Darvash), has been imprisoned for a year for political reasons, Lutsa does not even know whether he is alive or no longer in the world, but she sends letters to her mother-in-law as if from America, where her son allegedly now lives in complete luxury and success and ends the filming, which is already the highest awards. And Luza has to get harder, she is fired from work from school, she has already sold everything she could, her mother helps her a little, who offers to come to live with her, but Luza refuses, how she will leave her mother-in-law in this condition, other tenants are moved into their apartment, old friends avoid communicating with her. Her mother-in-law is getting worse and worse, her days are numbered. And at this moment, Luza learns that her husband is alive and she seems to even be allowed to meet with him, moreover, he is released from prison, but alas, the mother will not be able to see her son, but we see that Luza and Janos love has not disappeared, they will be together until the end. I liked the film, the actors are good, you have true sympathy for the characters, everything is quite vital, without any sentimentality. The film received the Jury Prize in Cannes, and two female roles received special mention.
