Planet Terror In 2007, a joint work of one of the most scandalous Hollywood directors - Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez - was released under the general name Grindhouse (Grindhouse). It combined two feature films from both directors: Planet Terror by Rodriguez, Death Proof by Tarantino and several fake trailers (trailers for non-existent films) between full-length films from directors such as Rob Zombie, Eli Roth and others. However, in full format, the picture was released only in the American box office. In Europe, the film was divided into two parts. Not everyone will be able to sit in the cinema for more than three hours. At the same time, these fake trailers were cut out, but some additional episodes were added to the full-length.
A little bit about the Grindhouses themselves. These are theaters in the United States, which show pictures of category B, C, Chinese or Indian action films in the style of kung fu (fan of which is Tarantino himself, who browsed them while working in the video distribution) and any such trash. In such cinemas, films of the highest category could take place, but such films did not shine with the quality of film. They were snatched, they had numerous scratches on them, and they could have ruptured during the viewing. Ticket prices for such cinemas were very low, or the entrance was free. Because they usually lived in people who did not find shelter for the night or other homeless people.
This main highlight was embodied in the "Grindhouse". Notable scratches, bubbles on the film, the break of the film at the most interesting moment in the film – all this is inherent in the “Grindhouse”.
Today we will talk about the painting by Rodriguez “Planet of Fear”. The action takes place in a small American town near the border with Mexico. Not far from the city is an abandoned military base, where there is one deal between the US military and one scientist. This scientist at this very base developed a dangerous biochemical weapon, which is unclear why the military needed it. But the deal is not quite smooth, and a dangerous virus enters the surrounding air thereby infecting all residents of the city.
As you can see, the bundle is not very original and resembles a bunch of similar zombie-movies. However, Rodriguez did not try to clone the disgraced idea of zombies and once again created his mini-masterpiece. This time we see a parody of all these films about infected people, zombies, the military, destroying everything in their path, and a bunch of surviving people trying to escape.
Rodriguez is rude, tough, and rightly makes fun of everything in his film. The main character, whose role is played by Freddy Rodriguez, a cool macho with a dark past, who skillfully wields butterfly knives and accurately shoots from any weapon, knows how to run no worse than Neo on the walls, and at the same time releases cheerful comments. His girlfriend - a one-legged dancer (Rose McGowan) - instead of a prosthesis puts himself an automatic rifle with a grenade launcher and treats everyone with lead. And in an elegant pose, the bridge evades the missiles fired at it. In the role - cameo lieutenant made the notorious Bruce Willis. Quentin Tarantino himself also appeared on the screen. And his appearance in the frame will be marked by a new portion of black humor.
In general, the film is full of references to the previous works of Tarantino and Rodriguez. A good connoisseur of their work will easily remember Tom Savini, who played the Sex machine in “From Dusk to Dawn”, or Michael Parks, who also played in “From Dusk to Dawn” by the sheriff under the same name – Earl McGraw.
The film itself contains a lot of cruel, bloody, unbearable scenes for both the eye and the stomach. But at the same time, Rodriguez once again only laughs and makes us smile when we see how the limbs of the mutated fly off from shots or decalitres of blood fly, splashing everything around.
A great project, acclaimed in Hollywood, but did not bring profit in the home States. Sorry. After all, the output turned out a pleasant spectacle that will not leave indifferent fans of Rodriguez, a zombie movie and just a good banter movie.
By the way, the fake trailer preceding the film "Machete", starring Danny Trejo, is said to be not fake at all and Rodriguez is going to shoot a full-fledged film on it.
