Another variation on the theme of mystical thrillers. I’m not a fan of this genre, but I don’t mind them either. Sometimes you just want to see something, even though you know that there is no new original idea in the film. That's what happened with this movie. It's quite an ordinary mystical story. Mostly in these films, girls are the roots of evil, as in this film. But I'd be lying if I said I'm watching this movie mostly because of Robert De Niro. I have great respect for his acting talent, but even before the beginning it was clear that this is not his genre, and that he will not demonstrate anything particularly outstanding here.
Speaking of actors. I also liked Dakota Fanning’s game a lot more. This natural sense of fear, well, Robert De Niro does not know how to portray it, but actors of a smaller caliber do it quite well. And for an eight-year-old girl (although I don’t know exactly how old she is, but it looks like eight) you could find a younger father. So did the neighbors. The film only spoils the picture of Famke Janssen. As always, such an image of a woman heroine who saves everyone does not suit her, and it does not fit very well into this film.
However, for a change, you can watch this film, but in no case do not expect a masterpiece from him, even if there is De Niro. This is just an ordinary mystical thriller with elements of a detective, nothing more and nothing less.
