In the center of the plot are two friends – Catherine and Nick. The life of this world is twofold, and the life of this world is one of two. The first in a divorce, has a teenage son, occasionally draws medium-quality paintings and unsuccessfully tries to find work. The second is also unsuccessfully trying to find his other half. Both are unlucky, and in the intervals between failures discuss them, drinking wine, on the balcony on short summer nights. The plot is quite in the spirit of the director. But there's usually a bit of optimism in his films, a sense that there are happy people out there who are doing well. Usually, but not this one.
How, however, a fine line between a pleasant author's film and a dull household! A little less humor, a little more seriousness, a little different character, and now the pleasant atmosphere disappears. And what remains, in the best traditions of modern Russian cinema, despite the fact that in the frame of Germany, there is darkness, poverty and hopelessness.
You can’t say the movie is so bad. But he leaves behind a taste of disappointment. Sluggish heroes who do not cause empathy, meaningless events that do not change anything either in the characters or in the situation, the atmosphere of hopelessness of any attempts to get out of the bottom of life. It's all very much on the amateur.
