Blood revenge The first film, at one time, was a real pleasant surprise. His trailers caused confusion and looked “serial”, but in fact the movie was very decent and with powerful acting work. The sequel really came out weaker: good caste, as it never happened, the effects became poorer, no more catapults, and even scenes of cutting off heads and other violence, mostly somewhere behind the scenes, although the picture is still a sea of flowing blood and murders, and also there was more female nudity (compensating for the sluggish battle entertainment with at least some visual charms and virtues).
Surprisingly, almost the entire cast, from heroes to villains, completely devoid of any charisma. The cast here is simply quite serial and unexpressive: Tom Austin, Daniel Webb, Predrag Bielak, there is even Catelyn Stark from Game of Thrones - Michelle Fairley, and in the same role as the wife of one northern lord. But at the same time, heroes and villains are saved by well-written monologues and motivations, they are wonderfully revealed in texts and speeches, although they are not expressive in battle. And the youngest of the two princesses is really nice and cute.
The film, in general, is made, in general, according to the traditions of George Martin: dying like flies, the main central characters (suddenly meeting their demise, although by the law of the genre usually such a "mixed team of mercenaries" survives almost without losses), the revealed theme of incest love (the main character, the nephew of the lord, muddles with one of the princess daughters, who is his half sister or something like that), boobs and violence in considerable doses. It could be a great historical television series. But whether to watch the second part in the movie - the question is a little controversial, yet to the level of the first film, I repeat, does not reach.
With a modest visual implementation, the film wants to praise the overall script and dialogue, only emphasizing this “seriality” of what is happening. Massages are not enough, there is no time to reveal the whole character, but still the creators try to pay due attention to all the heroes of this mess. Best of all, the executioner, acting on the side of the British, among mercenaries, and a warrior named Ogre from the Scots besieging the castle. Although from a boogie nicknamed “ogre” I would like something even more creepy, cool makeup with deformities or burns, some tattoos or rings of piercings, terrible scars, something even more gradious from its appearance than just a large bald “wrestler”, attacking long-haired “metalists” of the British.
Bloody naturalism to the sounds of a cutting bone saw, shows severed heads and carved eyes, but the process of all these atrocities remains in the shadows. The camera almost does not record the murders themselves, briefly dwelling on the consequences of flowing / whipping blood. The camera shakes regularly during fights, but not so epileptic that it is impossible to see anything, conveying the general turmoil of the battle. Jonathan English is far from the best director, but fiddles with his knights with avid zeal, most likely even shoot the third part already about the Hundred Years War, which is hinted at by the end of the second film.
