Composer Marc Antoine Charpentier never had an official position at the court of the king, but it was under the sounds of his music that the royal court moved to Versailles, after which 20 years his works constantly sounded within the walls of this pearl of French architecture, which became a symbol of the triumph of royal absolutism. On the occasion of the tricentenary of the composer’s death, the Palace of Versailles once again opened its doors to the finest Baroque musicians to pay homage to one of the great French composers of the 17th century.
