The series brings to mind the famous predecessors: “Twin Peaks” and “The X-Files”. From the first here is the mystical atmosphere of the untouched forest surrounding Silverhead; the magic of nature and ancient mysteries. From the second, perhaps more - attempts at scientific substantiation of what is happening, complex intrigues, paranoia and conspiracy.
However, neither Eva nor two other investigators, experienced Vaas and his young assistant Tom, involved in mysterious abductions and murders, do not look like valiant detective paladins like Cooper and Mulder. Eva doesn’t care about anything but saving her daughter, Vaas generally leads his own game, and only Tom is eager to figure it out selflessly – but he has a lot of personal problems that prevent him. As a result, they conduct the investigation like a swan, cancer and pike, which is quite entertaining to observe.
The main theme of the series was the confrontation between man and the mysterious forces of nature, and there is almost no ambiguity. While environmentalists sometimes use questionable methods, their enemies still seem less evil. Such a depth of disclosure of the conflict of civilization and nature, as in Princess Mononoke Miyazaki can't wait. However, to compare the classics of animation with the usual TV thriller is not very honest – weight categories are different. And in our historical moment, in fact, it is – it is nature that needs protection.
Speaking of evil, it is worth remembering the very colorful villain Storm, such a simple and sinisterly quiet maniac with a tragic past. Nondescript, verbose, he looks much cooler than operetically comic villains. However, at the end of the series, the creators did not restrain themselves.
I will have to mention the shortcomings of the series, since they are discussed. The logic of the characters periodically lame, some actions seem to be done simply in order to further play out a particular scenario. The ending also turned out to be too Hollywood - judging by the development of the plot in the first series, it was thought that many characters would not live to see the final credits. But the outcome was not as tragic as one might think. In fact, I would like to hope that this is not the end.
The result: a good fantastic thriller, in addition to allowing you to admire the nature of Scandinavia. 8 out of 10
