About the Italian film “Bread, Love and Fantasy” / Pane, amore e fantasia, 1953, directed by Luigi Comencini I heard literally since childhood, but I did not know that it was so popular that a whole tetralogy was removed, from it Comencini shot only the second film – “Bread, Love and Jealousy”, 1954, then Dino Risi shot the third film “Bread, Love and ...”, 1955, and in 1958 director Javier Seto shot the fourth film “Bread, Love and Andalusia”.
A couple of days ago I watched the first film, starring Vittorio de Sica and a young Gina Lollobrigida. The new Carabinieri commander Antonio Carotenuto (Vittorio de Sica) arrives in the small town, a big event for the town, it attracts the attention of many residents who watch it and discuss it. He himself is not a very young womanizer pays attention, first of all, to young women, so in the field of his sight falls young beauty Maria (Gina Lollobrigida) nicknamed Bersagliera (Prankster), as well as local midwife Anna (Marisa Merlini). At first, he tries to make wedges for Maria, which seems to him a suitable prey, but after a while he is cleared up by a local priest who tells him that Maria actually loves the young carabinieri Pietro Stelutti, and he loves her. Antonio is not very worried about this, immediately switching to Anna. At the end, both couples announce their engagement. The film is a classic Italian comedy of the time, looks good, especially since the performers of the main roles are good.
