G-Force: Guardians of Space is the second American animated television adaptation of the Japanese anime series Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, following Sandy Frank Entertainment's initial 1978 effort Battle of the Planets and preceding ADV Films recent 2005 attempt, known as just Gatchaman. With G-Force, Sandy Frank Entertainment collaborated with Turner Broadcasting to create a newer, more faithful translation of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman for a new audience, and such a translation was made possible with the relaxed television standards of the 1980s, a luxury that the more Star Wars-themed Battle of the Planets did not enjoy. close

The Meiji Era was one of great renewal for Japan, where swords and killing were outlawed. Yumi Fukuzawa became a full member of the Council of the Mountain Lily and was actively involved in the self-government of the women's school of St. Liliana. Gradually, she began to understand that not only the named older sister, but also the three magnificent, brilliant Roses are not celestials, but also people with the burden of the past, problems in the present and worries about the future. Why would the mysterious Erico, the Yellow Rose, date several men in a row? Has Say, the White Rose, always been the soul of company? What dream does the impenetrable Yoko, who heads the Red Rose family, hide?
As the months pass, the answers come, and it’s time for the older Roses to leave school, and for their recent “buds” to take the reins. The burden of separation and new responsibility begins to put pressure on Sachiko, Ray and Shimako – only the support of their own “younger sisters”, both familiar to the viewer and newfound, helps. Among Yumi’s common works and problems, it becomes clear that she will bring the greatest benefit, not by remaining a wordless shadow of Sachiko, but by herself – strong, kind, open and charming – in short, unique Yumi, such as Lilian was not yet! close
