In 1928, she toured the Middle East with her husband, and this tour was Berber’s last. In July, speaking in Damascus, the dancer right on stage felt a strong malaise. She was transported to Berlin and died in hospital on November 10 of the same year of tuberculosis, aggravated by cocaine addiction. In 1926, avant-garde artist Otto Dix captured Berber in the painting Portrait of a Lady in Red.
