Ryu Murakami was born on February 19, 1952, in Sasebo, Japan. At the age of 15, he forms a rock band and also acts as the organizer of a school rock festival. Up until the age of 18, he grew up in a port city that housed an American naval base. In this regard, the future writer was influenced by Western culture. He has repeatedly participated in the actions of the National Federation of Student Self-Government, the purpose of which was to protest against the military presence in the country of American services. In 1970 he moved to the suburbs of Fussa. He is studying at the Art University in Musashino (near Tokyo).
Ryu Murakami made his debut in 1976 when the novel All Shades of Blue was published. The book tells about the daily life of marginalized teenagers, and all of it is “soaked” with drugs and sex. The work became a sensation and sold a huge circulation, while the author himself felt, as a student, what it was like to be the winner of the Akutagawa Literary Prize. This was followed by a number of books showing the author’s innovation in the approach to the language, as well as the abundant use of slang, a deep transfer of the psychology of the characters and very unexpected plot twists. His novels “Children from the Storage”, “Melancholia”, “69”, “Tanatos” and “Ecstasy” also received great fame.
Along with literary creativity, Murakami is a film director. He's filming his own works. So, in 1979, the eponymous film of his first novel comes out, and after that he works on filming.
"Topaza" and Kyoko. Sometimes he also acts as a writer. So, as the basis of the script of the film “Kinoprob” was one of his novels. Nevertheless, Murakami is better known to the public as a writer, and his cinematic activities still remain in the shadows.
