Under the pseudonym Vercors in France and abroad known writer and illustrator Jean Marcel Brüller. He was born in the winter of February 26, 1902 in Paris. He graduated from the Institute with a diploma of electrical engineer, but preferred to go on the path of the profession of illustrator. In the twenties of the last century, such magazines as Annales, Paris-Flirt, Le Rire, Fantasio, and others vying to print his drawings. Vector drew pictures on topical topics for newspapers, but most of all he probably liked to illustrate the works of art of famous writers.
During the Second World War, during the occupation of France, the artist wrote a story called “Silence of the Sea”, which he dedicated to the poet Saint-Paul-Roux, but the Gestapo workers did not miss it. Brüller then founded his own Midnight Publishing House, which played a significant role in the cause of the French resistance. In the same publishing house, the book “Silence of the Sea” was first published, where the writer was recognized under the pseudonym Verkor.
The publishing house operated until 1947. During this time, Vercord published 27 of his books, among which were “The Procession with a Star”, “Weapons of the Night”, “Typography “Verdun”, “The Power of the Day”, as well as the works of other popular authors – Louis Aragon, Paul Eluard, Francois Mauriac, etc.
In his convictions, Vector was always a pacifist and, as best he could, fought against any kind of aggression and wars in the world.
Readers remembered the ardent fighter for peace in such books as “People or animals?”, “Anger”, “Battle of Silence”, “Time Horse”, “Wolf Trap”, “Anver Tiger”.
Vercor passed away on June 10, 1991.
