In Cleveland, Charlene Harris worked as a camera photographer for The Bolivar Commercial newspaper, and in Greenville and Clarksdale as a typewriter for print publications. In 1977, the traveler Charlene returned to Memphis, Tennessee, and worked as a typewriter for FedEx until 1978.
In 1978, Charlene wrote her first novel, Sweet and Deadly.
