Jann Arthus-Bertrand was born in Paris, France, on March 13, 1946. In his youth, Yann studied at the Paris School of Art at the Faculty of Director. After graduation he began to work as an actor, but when he was 21 years old, he decided to leave everything and go to the mountains of Auvergne, becoming a watchman in the reserve.
Later, he met his future wife, who persuaded Jann to go to Kenya to observe the life of lions in the wild. To observe it was necessary to shoot, so he became a photographer.
During a visit to the reserve in Masai Mara, the director flew a helicopter for the first time in his life and saw that everything looked very different from above. He enjoyed aerial photography so much that it quickly turned into a hobby.
In 1981, Jan Arthus-Bertrand’s book “Lions” was published, almost all the photos for which were taken from a helicopter. After returning to France, he began to work as a photojournalist, printing him in the most famous international publications. He also filmed the Paris-Dakar rally, sandstorms in the Sahara desert, gorillas in the impenetrable jungle. Jann’s work has received numerous awards.
In 1989, a collection of works by one hundred best photographers was published, which was called “3 Days in France”, which included photographs of Jann.
In 1991, the photographer founded the photo agency Altitude and began to travel to the most remote corners of the world. At the same time, in addition to the helicopter, he used a balloon, since it can stay in one place for a long time and provides an opportunity to catch the necessary lighting. The photographer took his pictures at an altitude of 20 to 300 meters above ground level.
In 2002, he published a unique edition of Jann's "Earth seen from the sky", where he included the best photos from the air. He still travels around the world and takes new photos, intending to release another edition of his work.
