In 1976 he graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics. In 1986 he graduated from postgraduate studies at the Leningrad State Institute of Culture named after N. K. Krupskaya. After graduating from LITMO, he worked as a researcher at the Vavilov State Optical Institute. Since 1986 he has worked at the Higher Trade Union School of Culture, since 1991 - its rector. In 1992 he became the rector of the trade unions created on the basis of the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University.
Alexander Zapesotsky since January 2009 is an academician of the Russian Academy of Education.
