According to Mexican critics, this novel opened a new page in Latin American “magical realism”, and it paradoxically combines reality and fiction, eroticism and mysticism, a love story and recipes of Mexican cuisine. The huge success did not go unnoticed, and soon the film “Chocolate on Cool Boiling Water” was released on the screens of Mexico (in the Russian box office called “Scorched by Passion”) – according to her book, the script was written by Laura Esquivel, and her then-husband, director Alfonso Arau, put the tape. Romantic film has won several awards "Ariel" awarded by the Mexican Film Academy, including for best film. In addition, the film was nominated for a Golden Globe and nominated for the British BAFTA Award; in the United States, it became one of the most successful foreign films. In 1994, "Chocolate on boiling water" was awarded the prestigious literary award - the prize of the American Booksellers Association. The novel has been translated into thirty languages, and its total circulation exceeds three million copies. The new novel by the writer is called “Law of Love”, and interest in its adaptation has already shown Robert Radford.
