Anatoly Ivanovich Utkin was born on February 4, 1944 in Balakovo, Saratov region. In 1968 he graduated from the historical faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University. In 1972 he defended his thesis, and in 1982 he defended his doctorate. Historian, specialist in international relations, recognized expert on US foreign policy. A special area of research interests is the regional policy of the United States, in particular - in Europe; the history of the Cold War. Works at the Institute of the USA and Canada RAS. Since 1994 - Professor of IPPC at Moscow State University, then, since 1997 - Director of the Center for International Studies of the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Author of 21 monographs, chapters in collective works, published more than 150 articles in leading journals and periodicals in several languages, as well as analytical works, reviews, reference publications. He taught at the Bosphorus Institute (Istanbul, 1991-93), at Ecole Normal Superior (Paris, 1993-94), at Columbia University (New York, 1998). Advisor to the International Affairs Committee of the State Duma.
