Stanislav Grof was born on July 1, 1931 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. In 1956 he graduated from Charles University, in 1965 defended his doctoral dissertation in medicine. From 1956 to 1967 S. Grof was a practicing psychiatrist-clinicist, actively studying psychoanalysis. Since 1961 he has led research in Czechoslovakia on the use of LSD and other psychedelic drugs for the treatment of mental disorders. Stanislav Grof was born on July 1, 1931 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. In 1956 he graduated from Charles University, in 1965 defended his doctoral dissertation in medicine. From 1956 to 1967 S. Grof was a practicing psychiatrist-clinicist, actively studying psychoanalysis. Since 1961 he has led research in Czechoslovakia on the use of LSD and other psychedelic drugs for the treatment of mental disorders. In 1967-1969, having received a scholarship from the Foundation for Supporting Psychiatric Research (USA), he completed a two-year internship at Johns Hopkins University, then continued his research at the Maryland Center for Psychiatric Research. In 1973-1987 he worked at the Esalen Institute (California, USA). During this period, together with his wife Christina, he developed the technique of holotropic breathing, which became a unique method of psychotherapy, self-discovery and personal growth. Currently, S. Grof is a professor at the Department of Psychology of the California Institute of Integral Studies, and also conducts training seminars for professionals. One of the founders of the International Transpersonal Association (ITA), its president in 1978-82. Author and co-author of more than 100 articles and about 20 books, among them - "Kingdoms of Human Consciousness" ("Realms of Human Consciousness", 1976), "Beyond the Brain" ("Beyond the Brain", 1988), "Holotropic Consciousness" ("The Holotropic Mind", 1992).
