John Carpenter was born on January 16, 1948 in Cartage, New York. His father headed the music department at Western Kentucky University, where John first studied. Then Carpenter goes to the University of South Carolina, already there fond of directing. While studying, he worked with producer John Longeneker on the short film The Return of Bronco Billy, for which he received an Oscar in 1970.
In 1974, Carpenter released the film Raid on the 13th Police Department. In 1978, the American director brings new trends in the genre of horror films, shooting “slasher”, which translates as “ripper”. As his first "ripper" he presents the picture "Halloween" (1978), which tells the story of a terrible maniac-murderer, destroying after escaping from a mental hospital all on the way during the Eve of all Saints.
