Roger William Corman. Roger William Corman was born on April 5, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, USA. In 1947 he graduated from Stanford University with a degree in engineering, studied at Belliol College in Oxford.
He began his film career as a courier at the 20th Century Fox Studio. Since 1953, Corman has been working there as a producer and screenwriter, and in 1954, after a conflict with the studio, he decided to make the film himself. Roger Corman's first independent film was The Monster from the Bottom of the Sea (1954), and in 1955 he made his debut as a director.
From 1955 to 1971, Corman made dozens of films (some in 2 shooting days!), and in total, he produced more than 200 films - mostly fiction and horror. Almost all of them are ultra-low budget and removed in an unprecedentedly short time.
In 1970, Roger Corman founded the film company New World Pictures, which by 1983 became one of the largest in the United States. After selling it in 1983 for $16.5 million, he created a new company, Concorde/New Horizons.
Roger Corman is also famous for the fact that under his leadership such directors and actors as Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Bogdanovich, Martin Scorsese, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, James Cameron, Charles Bronson and many others began their careers.
