Ted Kotcheff (full name William Theodore Kotcheff) was born in Toronto, Canada. After graduating from the University of Toronto with a degree in English literature, he became a director of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation at the age of 24. Two years later, Kotcheff moved to England, where he worked in television and theater. His film career also began there. Two years later, Kotcheff moved to England, where he worked in television and theater. His film career also began there. He made his film debut in 1962 with Tiara Tahiti with James Mason and John Mills. In 1972, Ted Kotcheff returned to Canada to shoot the film “The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz”, considered one of the best Canadian films in the history of cinema and received many international awards, including an Oscar nomination. Among other directorial works Kotcheff is also listed “First Blood” with Sylvester Stallone – his only film that received worldwide fame. Ted Kotcheff is married to Laifan Chang and they have two children. The couple are also co-owners of their own film company, Panoptica Productions, Inc.
