Thomas Winterberg was born on May 19, 1969 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The short feature film The Boy Who Walked Back (1994) was a success, followed by the dynamic thriller The Biggest Heroes (1996). Thomas Winterberg was one of the founders of the Dogma 95 film community. As part of the Declaration of Dogma, he filmed the film “The Triumph”, which was awarded a number of professional awards, including the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Then the director worked on television, and in 2003 he directed the love drama All About Love, which became a departure from the principles of Dogma. In this international project, the main roles were played by stars of American cinema - Claire Danes, Joaquin Phoenix, Sean Penn.
