Giacomo Puccini was born on December 22, 1858 in the Italian city of Lucca in the family of a musician. From 1880 to 1883 he studied at the Conservatory of Milan. Upon its completion, Puccini debuted Symphonic Capriccio (1883), wrote the operas Willis (Milan, 1884) and Edgar (Milan, 1889). Over the next decade, Puccini created four operas: “Manon Lescaux” (Turin, 1893), “Bohemia” (Turin, 1896), “Tosca” (Rome, 1900), “Cio-Cio-San” (Madame Butterfly, Milan, 1904) – works that received worldwide fame.
