Drai was born in Casablanca on July 25, 1947, and moved to Paris at the age of 14. In 1968, he began production of clothing line Vicadam, and in 1974, during a flight from Los Angeles to Paris, met actress Jacqueline Bisset, with whom he began a long-term affair. Dry sold his clothing line and moved to the States.
In 1993, when he was married to Loreen Lockley and fathered his first child, he decided to open his first restaurant, considering it a better option for the family business than producing films. Since then, he has become a restaurateur and hotel business owner.
