Bruce McDonald was born on May 28, 1959 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. In 1982 he graduated from the Ryerson Polytechnic Institute, where he studied the art and technique of film and photography. Bruce McDonald was one of the founders of the Toronto Independent Filmmakers Association. As his personal assistant, he worked with Norman Jewison on the set of Lambs of God. As a director, MacDonald made his debut with the short film Let Me See in 1982, and in 1989 he directed the first feature film Roadkill. Then the director worked for television, directed the series "Lonely Dove", "Secret Room", "Lexs". A great deal of noise was caused by the pseudo-documentary tragicomedy Hard Core Logo, which he staged in 1996. In the following years, the director worked in advertising, shot videos for various companies, including for the Canadian division of Levi’s. In the criminal thriller “Murder in a strange city” (“Picture Claire”), released in 2001, Bruce McDonald starred such famous actors as Gina Gershon, Juliette Lewis, Mickey Rourke.
