Alfred Stern is a German historian, son of mathematician Mauritz Stern. He was born on November 22, 1846 in Göttingen and died on March 24, 1936 in Zurich. He studied in Heidelberg, Göttingen and Berlin. He worked as an assistant in the state archives in Karlsruhe, and in 1872 became an assistant professor in Göttingen.
