He was born in 1957 in Auckland to a bus driver. From early childhood he grew up influenced by music, Irish songs that his father knew and sang, church music, music radio stations. Meanwhile, natural shyness for a long time did not allow him to do what lay soul – after school, he worked for a while as a cashier in a bank, then went to college, and only then joined the rock band Dudes Th, in which he gained his first experience of performing and first great fame.
He played with the band from 1975 to 1980, and after his breakup he founded a new DD Smash. Both of these bands were quite popular in New Zealand, their singles occupied the first lines in the charts.
In 1986 he began a solo career and began, among other things, writing music for cinema. The first experience in this field was the soundtrack to the animated film Feats of Futrot, released in 1987. Also Dubbin songs for such films as "One Mad Night"
"They were changed bodies" "The Ferryman," "The Real Ghouls."
