Segal spent his childhood and youth years in Orel. While studying at school, he studied in the theater studio of the Palace of Pioneers, composed plays, staged performances. In the same period, Michael had the opportunity to shoot his debut short films on eight- and sixteen-millimeter cameras.
In 1994, Segal graduated from the directorial faculty of the Orel Institute of Culture, then staged performances in Bryansk and Orel, composed poems, performed with his own ensemble “Music to the touch”. Together with the group, he performed on the stage of the Academic Theater named after Turgenev with the collective “Ice Period”.
In 1995, Segal became a student of VGIK at the director's faculty, but a year later he decided to leave his studies and began to shoot clips. The debut notable work of the team was “Hello, Night” with the ensemble “Serge”. Subsequently, he collaborated with pop and rock artists, but later gained fame as a clipmaker, set against the pop industry.
In addition, Michael collaborated with the groups “Sense hallucinations” and “Masha and bears”. In 2007, the video of the ensemble “Spleen” called “Say” was recognized as the winner at the MTV Russian Music Awards ceremony. In 2002, Segal switched to the advertising industry. He managed to shoot videos for such brands as Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Audi, IKEA, Pepsi, Alpen Gold, Ariel, Fervex, White Bear, etc.
In 2006, as part of the XXVIII Moscow International Film Festival, Mikhail Segal presented his debut feature film.
