Luigi Comencini (08.06.1916 – 06.04.2007)
I come from the Italian city of Salo. Little is known about his childhood and education. However, the history of his creative career did not go unnoticed. Its launch began with the release of the first successful film, The Emperor of Capri, in which Comencini directed Toto (1949). Before that, like many directors, he made short films that inspired him to do more serious work. These were the films La novelletta (1937), Children in the City (1946), L'ospedale del delitto (1950).
From his first shots, one could trace a special attitude to the world, permeated with good humor and light irony. This attitude is characteristic of the genre of comedy, one of the founders of which was Luigi Comencini. The director's first comedy was
Bread, Love and Fantasy The film was called "Commedia all'italiana in its purest form". In the filming of the film took part such famous people as Vittorio De Sica and Gina Lollobrigida.
In 1955 he met Alberto Sordi and shot him in the film La bella di Roma. But more popular is the film with his participation, referred to as “Everything at home” (1960). The film tells about the first peaceful days after the end of the war in Italy. It was a great success and won national awards and a special prize at the Moscow International Film Festival.
During his successful creative career, Luigi Comencini made more than two dozen films, without changing the comedy genre and receiving worthy film awards. For example, in 1986, at the 43rd Film Festival, he was awarded the Pietro Bianchi Award for the film “History”. A year later, he conquered new professional heights, this time receiving the Golden Lion for achievements in his career. One of his last film awards is the award for best original screenplay, received in 1986 for the film Cercasi Gesù.
Luigi Comencini became one of the directors who had a strong influence on Italian and world cinema. He presented him with optimistic, bright works and two beautiful daughters who chose a professional path in the field of directing, like their talented father. /
